The Football Dex covers the players who wrote their names into football history. The range is wide — from legends of legend to today's active stars — but if you're a football fan, no other dex serves up hints that read this clearly.
Four position categories
Before you start, the Football Dex sets its question pool across four positions — FW / MF / DF / GK. Forwards get the glory, so everyone knows their names; defenders and goalkeepers are territory only the devoted know. Turning on just the positions you're confident in is the baseline strategy, and with the category hint on, you know the position from the very first question.
Types translate play style
Football Dex types come from a player's play style. Explosive goal-scoring? Fire. Elegant ball control and command of the game's flow? Water or Psychic. Relentless pressing and fighting spirit? Fighting. An impenetrable wall at the back? Steel — that's the feel. Think of it as the impression from a highlight reel translated into the language of types, and you've got it exactly. Invented move names compress signature plays
Football Dex move names were invented for this dex, following the one modifier + one action rule. Their source is the player's signature play — an iconic dribble, a trademark shot, a moment carved into history. Read the action first ("does it strike, save, or slip past?"), then let the modifier conjure the scene — and for a football fan, that's a sharper hint than any name could be.
The generation hint is the era they ruled
The stage-2 generation hint lines up with the era a player dominated. Just gauging whether they're a legend from grainy black-and-white footage or a hero of the last World Cup slashes the candidate pool. Since era is often what separates players of the same position and similar style, the generation hint is practically the finishing blow in the Football Dex.
In multiple choice, eliminate by position instinct
When the final four options appear, cross out the players whose style clashes with the type combination first. A silky technician up front is never going to be the answer to an iron-wall defender's type profile.
